Mindfulness by the Mersey

A new event for the Port Sunlight River Park, designed to help people deal better with the stresses and pressures of daily life is being launched at the River Park in Port Sunlight.

The 'Mindfulness in Nature' course is set to take place outdoors there against the backdrop of the River Mersey and the natural beauty of the location.

The new activity starts on 30th April 2019, runs for 8 consecutive weeks and is free for anyone interested in learning how greater individual self-awareness can help people cope more easily with anxiety and stress and improve their quality of life. There is also a second course starting on 9th July.

The two-hour session takes place on Tuesdays mornings starting at 9.30am and is led by Bob Wheat, an experienced mindfulness trainer.

Bob says: ' Mindfulness is all about living in the moment and teaches people how to cope better with the stresses and anxieties of life. It can be hugely therapeutic and can improve a person's quality of sleep, lower their blood pressure and encourage positive thinking'.

Anne Litherland, the Ranger at the River Park, says: 'We are delighted to be hosting the new Mindfulness in Nature course here. The River Park is wonderful place for people to come and relax in a natural environment at any time of year and is the ideal location for an event that shows people how mindfulness techniques can improve their well-being and health'.

There is no charge for taking part in the event, which is sponsored by the Wirral South Isolation Fund.

Anyone interested in taking part in the event should call 07587 550060 or email:

The event will be held indoors at the new River Park Heritage Centre if the weather is bad.

The importance of Mindfulness is recognized by the National Health Service (NHS).

Its website states that 'Mindfulness is recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) as a way to prevent depression in people who have had 3 or more bouts of depression in the past'.
